Debbie & Colm
It was a cool October evening when I received an email from Debbie, inquiring for photography for her wedding that following August. October is a funny time in Corfu; the weather is cooler but the days are still long with the early morning sunrises and late sunsets. At the time I was busy prepping everything for the Halloween party I was throwing that year, which was to be Angelina's first ever halloween! She was only 8 months and didn't understand a thing, and she was so afraid of her granny's witches costume she had to remove it mid party.
How time flies.
In our emails talking about everything for the wedding, Debbie mentioned an old saying that they live by in Ireland:
"The days are long but the years are short",
and that beautiful saying has really resonated with me ever since. Because there is a sweet sadness to the truth in it.
We got deep to planning and chatting about everything wedding, talking about First Looks and sparkler entrances, hours coverages, colour schemes, and their gorgeous answers to my questionnaire. My questionnaire gets sent out alongside my contract and my helpful guides; it consists of questions on how you guys met and some bits about your story, and it just helps me get to know you a little better to really understand. the perfect way to capture and narrate your love story🤍
After so many emails back and forth over the following months, the time finally came for our pre-wedding meeting to meet in person, and we vibed just as well in person as we did through emails. It was just like seeing an old friend. The time passed quickly, and before we knew it Debbie & Colm's special day was upon us.
And so began their day, starting in their luxurious hotel suites to capture them getting ready and those all important details for the day.
The Getting Ready Process
The getting ready process at any wedding tends to be the most stressful part of the entire day. With the heightened emotions bubbling away and the nerves of walking down the isle in front of all your nearest and dearest, its completely normal for this time of the day to be a bit of a stressed out mess. And honestly I've seen it all: brides sobbing, yelling, not speaking at all, being overly too happy or not even stressed at all. Whatever emotions you're feeling the morning of, one thing that I can assure you is that these feelings and emotions are completely normal, and true to you. Debbie was cool as a cucumber, gliding through the getting ready with grace and ease, and we even had some time to spare!!
Groom Prep
As Debbie & Colm were both getting ready together inside the same luxurious hotel, in separate rooms, I was able to slip away from bridal prep to capture some of the guys getting ready!! I absolutely love getting to make the grooms feel a little special with some focus on them as well - it is a special day for them too!!
If youre interested in Groom Prep, but not getting ready in the same location, it is possible for me to arrange for a second shooter. to accompany me on the day, to cover groom prep and capture the guys getting ready too! If this is something you're interested in, do let me know!
First Look
A huge trend has stormed the wedding photography industry these past few years, and I am absolutely here for it.
First Looks.
I love first looks. Everything about them. They are such raw and intimate moments. There are a few variations of First Looks, and I talk about them more in my wedding guide! The most common is this:
throwing the tradition of the groom seeing his bride for the first time when she is walking down the aisle to the wind, and opting to sneak off together before the ceremony for an intimate, private moment between them, capturing them seeing each other for the first time in the wedding attire just the two of them.
Love, romance, intimacy. Exactly what I'm here for, and this couldn't be more "it".
Debbie & Colm, as with many others, wanted to keep the original tradition for the bride and groom, but loved the idea of a First Look moment between the bride & her father. I can never be sad when my couples opt to keep the first look on the aisle tradition, because it usually means that they'll opt for a first look between father and daughter, and it is such a raw, treasured moment.
I mean just look at that smile!!!
Dad shedding a tear seeing his little baby girls life flash before his eyes with her adorned in her beautiful wedding gown?
I'm not crying, you are.
And so after this tearjerking moment, I had to jump in my car and speed race to the ceremony venue...
thankfully your girl's trained in driving in chaotic Greece;
imagine the crazy Italians you see in the films, but worse..😂

Alexa, play here comes the bride, instrumental

And now,
Let the ceremony begin.
Family Photos
Next up it was time for the family photos. Usually the most chaotic time of the day!! Considering it was a huge group of 80 guests on the day, the family photos actually flowed really well. We love it when everyone comes together to make good things happen!!
This was then followed by the Groom and his Groomsmen photos, and the Bride with her gorgeous gals. What a team.
Couples Portraits
Then it was time to snag some couples portraits for our newly weds... With just how incredible this venue was, we were actually able to stay within the grounds for the entire time! Everywhere I looked there were beautiful opportunities for photos that just jumped out at us!!
Disclaimer: this venue doesn't accept weddings anymore :( but the amazing wedding planner that worked this wedding has many more gems up her sleeve!!
After our short time together of capturing these few portraits, it was time for our couple to join their guests for the incredible buffet.
And boy did they enter with a bang...
A Dinner Reception To Remember
After that showstopper, I grabbed my shots of the receptions details, including the little photo-booth setup by the planner, (everything was so beautifully placed and thought through!!!! Simplicity is so key; I just loved the vibe of this evening reception with all the little details), and then finally sat down with my own plate from the buffet.
And boy it did not disappoint. The food was incredible!!!!
As you can imagine, photographing weddings is really tiring work; you're on your feet jumping here there and everywhere to catch every angle and every shot (my nickname bunny on speed came to be for this very reason😂), so providing a plate of delicious food for me to refuel during the reception is vital, so I'm ready to jump up and continue capturing more perfect moments.
A few more Couples Portraits...
I just can't resist!
The meal was coming to an end, so I grabbed my newly weds to capture a few more portraits as the sun was setting. We snuck off down to the beach and onto the venues little jetty for a quick 15 minutes of photos.
Every second counts!
Speeeeech!! Cutting of the cake, and the First Dance
After this it was time for the speeches, the cutting of the cake, and the first dance...
then of course, it was party time!!
And so this incredible day came to an end, with everyone jumping onto the dance floor and mobbing our gorgeous newly weds; which is cue for me to bid farewell.
I love how this day just flowed so well; it was so relaxed, and everyone was just so happy.
A perfect day that will never be forgotten at all.
"The days are short but the years are long"
Absolutely. And here's to many years to you two.
Love, Jess💗
